Local Implementation of the project “Zero Waste to Mekong river” and commitment to maintain the project model

The project “Zero Waste to Mekong River: Pilot Circular Economy model for Floating markets in Can Tho” achieved impressive results and received positive reviews from local people and authorities after one year of operation.

The project reduces local pollution, improves the local landscape and living conditions of the Can Tho people. This activity was accomplished by organizing waste classification, collection, and treatment activities as well as the implementation of pilot models also for organic waste.

Mr. Pham Nam Huan, Deputy Director of the Department of Natural Resources and Environment of Can Tho City highly appreciated the project: “The project has achieved many commendable results. Many activities contributed to raising the community’s awareness of environmental protection and enhancing the environmental quality in Cai Rang Floating Market, Con Son –  a popular tourist attraction in the city.

The project worked with local authorities to propose solutions to grow and sustain local models of waste management and treatment. At the Project Sharing Workshop, Mr. Nguyen Van Khanh, Vice Chairman of Binh Thuy District People’s Committee reaffirmed his commitment to upholding the project’s achievements: “The project has changed people’s perspectives on waste treatment while also resolving challenges with garbage collection and transportation. Both the environment and the lives of the locals benefit greatly from these very useful measures. We commit that when the project ends, the locality will continue to maintain activities and spread project results.”
