Launching the project “Pilot circle economy models in waste management in Lam Dong commune, Thuy Nguyen district, Hai Phong city
On September 23, 2023, The Damen Song Cam Shipyard (DSCS) coordinated with Centre for Supporting Green Development (GreenHub) and People’s Committee of Lam Dong Province to organize the launching ceremony of “Pilot Circular Economy Models in Waste Management in Lam Dong commune, Thuy Nguyen district, Hai Phong city” project, marking the first step in efforts to support Lam Dong commune to improve the quality of local solid waste management. The ceremony attracted the participation of the Damen Song Cam Shipyard, the project host – GreenHub, People’s Committee of Lam Dong Province and stakeholders.
Lam Dong commune is having trouble in managing household solid waste, protecting the environment and raising people’s awareness about waste. With the aim of improving the waste management system in Lam Dong commune and the capacity of local people in the commune about waste and environmental protection, reducing the amount of waste that goes to landfills or leaks into the environment, and minimizing environmental pollution in the commune, the project is designed with 4 components as follows:
– Component 1: Build a Database and create a Collaboration platform in waste management, which is the support foundation of current and future waste management mechanisms.
– Component 2: Strengthen awareness, capacity and change behavior of the community of Lam Dong commune on waste management and zero-waste practices.
– Component 3: Improve waste management efficiency through connecting the waste classification, collection chain and circular economy pilot models.
– Component 4: Evaluate the pilot model and document, share experience and transfer results.
Based on accompanying local people from August 2023 to December 2024, the project focuses on building a long-term and sustainable foundation for the surrounding community development, along with social investment, creating strong impacts on people’s awareness of the environment.
