After nearly 1 year of implementing activities on practicing of waste classification and waste treatment at the Experimental Pedagogy Science Elementary, Middle and High School (Experimental School), the school has adopted and maintained the model of solid waste classification and expanded it throughout the school. The school also asked parents to encourage their children to practice sorting waste at home.
Every day, waste at the school is sorted into pairs of sorting bins. Every Friday, elementary and junior high school students bring recyclable waste such as cans, plastic bottles, plastic bags, milk cartons, etc. from their homes to school for classification according to the instructions of teachers managing the activity
Garbage sorting activities take place from 7:15 am with the enthusiastic participation of students from elementary to middle school. The secondary students actively sort their waste very quickly. They also can distinguish waste with high recycling value from those with low value. For primary school children, the activity takes longer and still needs the guidance of teachers as they bring quite a lot of waste to school.
Parents who bring their children to school also participate in waste-sorting. A parent shared: “Since the school implemented this program, my family also now sorts waste into plastic, paper, and electronic waste and then brings it to a collection site in our ward. Sorting waste is difficult, so I have to study this with my children”.
After sorting, waste is transferred to a third party collector for processing. Since inception, the school still maintains the waste sorting activity according to agreed guidelines and receives the enthusiastic support of all teachers, students and parents.
