Vietnam Zero Waste – Waste as Resource – Part 2

For the purpose of assessing the difference in the situation of restaurant and hotel waste in Tuy Hoa city (a tourist destination) in the winter and the off-tourist season, GreenHub conducted a waste audit at Kaya Hotel 2 times in the tourist season (June 28, 2019 – July 4, 2019) and a more limited tourist season (September 3, 2019 – September 13, 2019).

Realizing that organic waste accounts for a large proportion, and plays an important role in reducing waste at KaYa Hotel, GreenHub instructed KaYa hotel staff to make bio-detergent from organic waste.

After being trained in the method, KaYa staff practiced to serve the cleaning and sanitation of the hotel.

From September 2019 to April 2020:

On average, KaYa hotel has recycled 1.8kg/week of organic waste, equivalent to 0.001% of the total amount of organic waste emitted at the hotel.

After 6 months, KaYa hotel has recycled 43.2 kg of organic waste and produced 144 liters of biological detergent.

With the amount of bio-detergent produced, each week, the hotel has 5 liters for floor cleaning and 1 liter for glass cleaning. Since then, the hotel did not need to import floor cleaner and glass cleaner from external suppliers to use, saving the equivalent of 400,000 VND/month.

With KaYa Hotel’s desire to recycle organic waste into dishwashing liquid for use, GreenHub will continue to support KaYa Hotel in achieving this goal.
