PHU YEN ZERO WASTE: LOCAL PARTICIPATION – THE FOUNDATION FOR SET UP & IMPLEMENTION THE PROJECT

Following and based on the input survey results of the pilot model at Ward 7 market, GreenHub had a meeting with partner organizations and local authorities on the implementation of environmental protection activities in 2021, in Tuy Hoa city, Phu Yen province on April 14, 2021.

This is a crucial meeting, laying the foundation for success of the implemented models. The participation and collaboration of the entire political system, the determination of local leaders, as well as the coordination of businesses and local people to achieve the best results.

The consultation meeting had the presence of stakeholders, including: Center for Supporting Green Development – GreenHub, World Wide Fund For Nature- WWF Vietnam, Department of Natural Resources and Environment of Phu Yen province, Phu Yen Town Environment Joint Stock Company (URENCO Phu Yen), specialized departments and People’s Committees of 16 wards and communes.

The meeting focused on discussing the coordination of environmental protection works for Tuy Hoa city in 2021, with the following main activities:

  • Implement the model of garbage classification at the market;
  • Sorting garbage at 01 residential area;
  • Building 03 models of reduce plastic waste in school facility
  • Removing 01 waste hot spot.
  • Coordinating with Phu Yen Town Environment Joint Stock Company (URENCO) to implement the model of organic waste composting at Tho Vuc landfill.

After 2 hours of discussing and receiving comments, leaders of Tuy Hoa City People’s Committee on behalf of the entire meeting agreed on the following contents: Tuy Hoa City People’s Committee is responsible for coordinating with Department of Natural Resources and Environment of Phu Yen province, GreenHub, WWF Vietnam to develop a plan and implement a model of waste classification at Ward 7 market, a model of waste classification in a residential area of ​​Ward 7 and collect classified organic waste for composting at Tho Vuc landfill.

In addition, the above activities will be carried out in collaboration with schools and business units in the province with the motto “The implemented project must be put into practice, maintained sustainably and not only stop at the movement” – said Mr. Le Vinh Thanh – Vice Chairman of Tuy Hoa City People’s Committee said at the meeting.

Hopefully, with solid beginnings, GreenHub will work with partners and local authorities to easily implement follow-up activities with good results, contributing to the treatment and reduction of waste in Phu Yen the province.
