EFD / A series of events UNDERSTANDING TO LOVE – FROM FARM TO TABLE

The series of events “UNDERSTANDING TO LOVE – FROM FARM TO TABLE” is within the framework of the Enterprising For Development project in the agricultural value chain – EFD2, funded by Oxfam Novib and the GSRD, and it was done by the collaboration of Oxfam, the Center for Social Incentives Promotion (CSIP) and Centre for Supporting Green Development (GreenHub).

The series of events aim to increase the connection between producers and other interested parties through humane and inspirational stories. Thereby, it created the understanding, respect and comprehending promoting mutual development in Vietnam’s agricultural chain. Not only opened a strong connection space between production units – Vinh Ha – Phu Xuyen Clean Agricultural Products – with consumers, the event chain also created a transparent mechanism for information about the production process, which encourages consumers in participating directly in the process of quality assurance, product traceability properly and increasing the interaction with manufacturers. Participants also perceived the macrobiotic knowledge, which helps to decide healthy and eco-friendly choices.

Including 2 main events and attracted more than 200 participants, the series of events has been a bridge between the producer and consumer, which improve knowledge of the Participatory Guarantee System – PGS as well as traceability stamps on agricultural products.

1. Talkshow “UNDERSTANDING TO LOVE – FROM FARM TO TABLE”

Took place on the morning of 8th November 2019 at Tam An Lac Vegetarian Restaurant, talkshow had genuine sharing about the production process conversion from safe vegetables to organic vegetables of Vinh Ha Enterprise as well as the Tam An Lac’s establishment story.

The sharing session in a warm and friendly space attracted the attendance of more than 40 people, and created the trust between consumers and production units in the context of unsafe widespread agricultural products. Food chemicals have been a social problem in recent years. The diseases, especially cancers, have increased rapidly. Participants gained a better understanding of the difficulties and challenges in organic farm production and market distribution, as well as the strengths and weaknesses of the Participatory Guarantee System (PGS) * which the project is supporting Vinh Ha Enterprise to deploy.

2. Farmtour “UNDERSTANDING TO LOVE – FROM FARM TO TABLE”

The farmtour trip took place on 17th November 2019, attracted the participation of more than 200 people, with diverse ages, occupations, … helping consumers to see and hear the production process of organic vegetables by PGS Vinh Ha – Phu Xuyen. Not only they visited the fields, preliminarily processed areas and harvested their own vegetables, participants also enjoyed the vegetarian buffet made from fresh ingredients of Vinh Ha and Phu Xuyen material fiel. They have received more knowledge about the macrobiotic and the benefits of a vegetarian diet to health and the environment.

The Participatory Quarantee System (PGS) has also been spread out and created more trust to the community through the implementer’s sharing, and a detailed manual.

* PGS is a Participatory Quarantee System where organizations and people directly involved in the supply chain including Producers (Farmers), Distributors, Merchants, Consumers and Other parties are concerned. PGS is a system that can be flexibly applied to different local practical conditions (community, geography, politics, environment, …).
