A sustainable journey without plastic waste at Cham Islands

On June 6, Hoi An City Women’s Union, in collaboration with the Centre for Supporting Green Development (GreenHub), organized a program to launch the “Say no to single-use plastic” movement in 2022 in Tan Hiep commune and the program “Exchange waste for alternative products – Action for green island”.

Within the framework of this event, a Community Monitoring team of Cham Islands was officially established and a commitment to replacing disposable plastic products with eco-friendly products was signed between the representative of business households and the authority, marking an important step toward the sustainable development and saying no to single-use plastic waste of Cham Islands.

Moreover, at the ceremony, 66 kg of cans, 40 kg of paper, and 20 kg of plastic bottles were brought in exchange for replacement products. The amount of waste sold for cash is 1,500,000 VND. This represents the first flourishing of the program “Exchange waste for alternative products – Action for green island” in Cham Islands.

The activity is organized within the scope of the project “Local Solutions for Plastic Pollution” (LSPP) sponsored by USAID under the program “Vietnam Local Works for Environmental Health”, implemented by GreenHub and 03 partners (ISPONRE, HUPH-VOHUN, GIMASYS).
